Songs that Make Me Happy, part three.

It's been a while since I did a music post, so I thought it was time!

Starting in my music list from where I left off, is the band Emerald Rose.  Do I have, "Fire in the Head"?  Oh yeah!

The audio in this unplugged version is a bit flat but I love the little girl dancing around in front of them, and I always like being able to see the chords the guitarist is playing.  :)

Emerald Rose are the go-to band for geeky fantasy people but they do a pretty good pure folk song too.

I know Enya is considered a bit twee these days, but I still listen to her a lot.  Her music makes me feel happy and peaceful. This is "Epona," a Goddess who I still love despite not currently owning any horses.

Everything But The Girl are a duo that I listen to a lot, especially while writing.  This is "We Walk the Same Line," Rosie's and my theme song.  It's sweet and uplifting, just like my Rosie and I are together!  Do you have theme songs with your beasties?  I do.  :)

To kick it up a notch, here's Faun with "Walpurgisnicht".   A real toe tapper!  I looked up the lyrics when I first found it, but I don't remember what they are singing when I listen from day to day, so I like to make up my own mondegreens to it, such as, "Hey ho, melty man, melty man!"

A well known tune next but one that I love for its sense of looking forward and its sweet swing, not to mention Stevie's lovely voice, and this video is gorgeous too. "Gypsy" by Fleetwood Mac.

A good one to end this post with, since the next one on my list would be, "March of the Cambreadth," by Heather Alexander, and that would get you all stirred up again.  Next time!

Songs That Make Me Happy: Part Two.

Songs That Make Me Happy: Part One.

Woah, I missed my blogging day yesterday and never even realised!  Andyroo being home on a sabbatical from work is kind of messing with my usual routines, but it's nice all the same.  I'm sure we'll settle into things, but right now it feels like every day is a holiday.  Not that I'm complaining about that!  :)

I thought it was time I posted a few more songs that make me happy.  I always love to hear of more happy songs so please do give me links in the comments if you know one you think I might like.  Music is so important to me and am always overjoyed to come across something new that I love.

These guys are relatively new, to me at least. They are a UK duo called Crow Puppets. Their sound is so distinctive, and this video clip of, "Red Ribbons," is a lovely short animation too.

Here are very not-new band, The Cure.  I don't know how they manage to do such very dark songs, and then turn around and do such very happy songs like, "Mint Car". Listening to The Cure reminds me of nights of dancing in the dark in my younger days.

"Hal An Toe," the folk song, as done by Damh the Bard, always makes me feel boppy and bright.

Showing my age here.... "Groove is in the Heart," by Deee-lite.  So cheerful!

"Gay Bar," by Electric Six, not for the faint of heart but very lively!  As I've said before, I have eclectic tastes in music.  :)

And lucky last, the uplifting, "Wonder," by Naughty Boy and featuring Emilie Sandé.  Cool clip too.  If someone two weeks away from being 50 can still say 'cool'.  :)

I hope you enjoy my selections for you.  Friday, I promise you I'll do an update of goings on around here.  There was a cucumber explosion, for one thing!

Music to Write to: Deva Premal and Miten (often with Manose.)

Feel like a little peace and beauty?  Listen to Deva Premal and Miten.  Lovely to write to, lovely to sing along to.  I've learned some of the mantras from listening to these guys and do indeed find them very helpful for handling stress or ratty brain.

Here's a really accessible one to ease you in.  :)  In the Light of Love.

So beautiful.  Deva's voice truly is a gift.

This is the Twameva Mantra.  Here's a lovely explanation of it if you are interested.

If ever beings exhibited the Buddhist concept of "Right Work", it is these guys.  Such joy radiates out of them, especially Manose.  That young man positively glows with it!

The Gayatri Mantra is one of my favorites.  Its meaning is a little difficult for we westerners to get, but the essence of it might be said to be; a song of praise that awakens the vital energies and gives liberation from suffering.  You don't really need to need to know what it means, though,  Just singing along or even listening is good for you.

I love this live version.  All the people singing along in such togetherness and peace.

Feeling all lovely and peaceful?  I bet you are!

This is another more western song.  There are beautiful harmonies in this one.  Awakening/Om Shanti.  I love to sing along to this one!

Ok, ready for the big guns?  This is the Moola Mantra.  Yes it's long.  Deva has a whole album of just this mantra.  You'd think that would be boring but actually it's my second favorite album after their in concert one. You are basically acknowledging divinity, from the one that is all, to the gods in their feminine and masculine manifestations, to the divinity of all that is around us, to our own divinity.  This is just my interpretation of course!  At any rate it's lovely to sing and makes you feel good.

Here are the words. It does help to see them written down so that you sound them properly and therefore get the best benefit of them as they pass through your body.
Om
Sat Chit Ananda
Parabrahma
Purushothama
Paramatma
Sri Bhagavathi
Sametha
Sri Bhagavathe
Namaha

Deva explains their meaning this way:
Sat - truth, Chit-  consciousness, Ananda -  bliss  (this is also a mantra in its own right)Parabramha - the unmanifest divine, the divine that is all around us, the air we breathe, the space that's all around us permeating everything.Purushothama - the divine that is manifest in human beings, as our spiritual teachers, gurus, avatars, enlightened masters.Paramatma - the soul that's within every living thing, the divine essence that's within every living thing.Sri Bhagavathi Sametha Sri Bhagavathe - the feminine principle together with the masculine principle.Namaha - I offer salutations (to all of the above). So to the divine in its unmanifest form, then channelled into our teachers and gurus, then coming to the universal understanding of everything being divine, of everything being a reflection of the divine perfection  and then the dance of the feminine and the masculine energy like a yin and yang at the end of the mantra.

I hope that this music gave you a lovely peaceful feeling ready for the weekend, and I hope that you listen to Deva Premal and Miten some more in the future.  You'll go out into the world radiating peace and love, and the world could do with more of that!

Songs that make me happy: Part One.

You know how there are some songs that always brighten your day, every time they come up on your shuffle?  Well, here are a few of mine!

This one is so cheerful and the perfect song for dog lovers.  It's called, "Song My Dog Wrote," by Brendan Biondi.  The dog in the video is a Lab!

This one always makes me want to bop around and it's a cheerful message too. Brett Dennen, "Blessed."

Then comes Bling Melon's, "No Rain."  It is one of the songs I enjoy playing and singing on the guitar too.   I love the video.  Who hasn't dreamt of finding their perfect tribe like the bee girl does in this?

Then there's Bruno Mars',  "The Lazy Song." He has a lot of fun with this one, and it's a fun video too.

And this version of a Cernunnos rising song, Beltane (Goddess Version) is so lovely and somehow summery, it is one of my new happy songs.

Wow, I didn't know I had so many happy songs.  Think this will have to be a series!

A bit of a mixture, I know.  My musical tastes are nothing if not eclectic.  I hope listening to some of these cheery tunes gave you happies too!
